The one thing that would improve my photography

Many moons ago, I excitedly posted an image that been jealously guarding on social. The first comment was ‘your photography is improving’. Although, it wasn’t a bad comment, it stung a little. What made me uncomfortable was the idea that someone had been keeping an eye on my progress. Even my aim my wish has always been to learn, progress and grow.

Has my photography improved?

Over the years, my observations skills have greatly improved thanks to a combination of reading, and studying various form of art and so have my editing skills. Whether my my photography skills have improved is a matter of opinion even though learning and being more pro efficient in the technical aspects of my photography has given me more freedom and freedom when I create. My goal has always been to create images rather than capture them. The art of creating is a form of self-expression which is an important and necessary outlet for me.

I have grown as an artist, learned and exposed my to other art forms/artists that have greatly influenced me. The one thing that I know will improve my photography is capturing and creating new images as often as I can while expressing my vision. Vision comes with practice and a whole lot of patience and working hard. After all nothing is accomplished without hard work. Vision is following one’s own instinct in order to create images that are authentic to one’s self.

However, finding one’s vison is not a straightforward journey. It is a rocky and unpredictable path that hopefully will end in getting to know ourselves better.

Hopefully a path that leads to creating a body of work that I love and really proud of……………………..

The most important thing about your photography is whether you’re enjoying it and feel that you have made progress towards the goals you set.

I’ve found that I tend to be my own toughest critic, which makes it all the more satisfying when I look at an image from a decade ago and still like it.

    Keep on shooting.

We all seem to be our harshest critic. It is only recently that I’ve found myself liking some past images. I must be doing something right.
