Monday’s Inspiration – Nick Brandt’s INHERIT THE DUST

I would like to start this week with the new works of Nick Brandt entitled “Inherit The Dust”.

This particular series highlights the sheer scale of man’s astonishingly rapid and escalating expansion into, and destruction of, the natural world. The destruction of these animals, of these African places, is not happening in the past where we grew up, but in our own immediate present.

If things continue at their current rate, in just a few years time, rural African children will be as uncomprehending that elephants and giraffes once roamed the fields in front of their home, as we are that woolly rhinos once lived where our nearest shopping mall now stands.

What is astonishing in this series is that places where zebras roamed only two years earlier are now where new towns had risen out of the ground at extraordinary speed.

The most extraordinary thing to me is how we easily forget about what is happening. The media covers what is popular right now to draw in the rating and then forgetting about the important issues.

One of them clearly highlighted here by Nick Brandt.
